$1.6 Preliminary Settlement for Medical Malpractice

A California woman who was paralyzed during back surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center may receive $1.6 million under a proposed settlement being considered by Los Angeles County officials today. Shanay Bridges claims that hospital staff failed to inform her about risks associated with the surgery and also failed to provide her with adequate care. If county officials initially approve the settlement, the matter will go before the county Board of Supervisors for final approval. Contra Costa Times
