$6 Million Verdict For Fatal Pulmonary Embolism

A jury has ordered an orthopedic surgeon to pay more than $6 million to the husband and estate of a 42-year-old woman who died after undergoing outpatient knee surgery in 2004. In the verdict, jurors found that the doctor ignored a number of risk factors that would have indicated a risk of blood clots that could lead to a fatal pulmonary embolism. Attorneys for the surgeon said they would likely appeal the verdict.
