Recently it was discovered that a doctor practicing in Maryland had a criminal record in another State. In response, the Maryland Board changed its procedures to now do criminal background checks on doctors who are seeking a license to practice in this State.
This is a good idea. Patient safety must be first and foremost. If a doctor has had a criminal past, especially if it involves inappropriate behavior, there has to be a process in place from the State Board.
