Michigan doctor accused of falsely diagnosing hundreds of children with epilepsy

The Detroit Free Press (6/15, Anstett) reports on a lawsuit pending against Dr. Yasser Awaad “and Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center, Dearborn,” alleging “that Awaad falsely diagnosed hundreds of Detroit-area children with epilepsy just to raise his pay at Oakwood, which tied his earnings to the procedures he did.” Some of the children “still may not know they were wrongly treated for seizures, say two Farmington Hills attorneys who represent 225 of Awaad's former patients, including seven named in the lawsuit. Today, attorneys are to ask Judge Daphne Means Curtis for permission to conduct dozens of additional interviews, including those of senior Oakwood officials, needed to certify the suit as a class action.”
