Pennslyvania Hospital Shutdown

A lawsuit has been filed in Pennsylvania in an attempt to halt the closure of the West Penn Allegheny Health System's emergency room and inpatient care operations. The suit, filed by the Suburban General Hospital Advisory Board, claims an agreement reached during a 1994 merger guaranteed the hospital would remain open as an acute care center. Officials believe that shutting down the hospital “would hurt the community,” and the suit is seeking an injunction to stop the shutdown. Sean D. Hamill, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette 08/10/2010
