During a recent discussion with someone who called from the website about a potential case, I was explaining about the laws of medical malpractice in Maryland. The caller asked where do all these laws come from? I thought it was a great question and wanted to share this information in our blog.
Medical malpractice laws mostly come from legislation that is passed in Annapolis. All of us are represented by delegates and state senators depending on where we live. These legislators may propose a law that deals with medical malpractice. If the law passes then it is something that has to be followed, even if the law negatively impacts the rights of Marylanders to pursue medical malpractice cases.
Each year that the legislature meets (January to April) there are laws that are proposed which do hurt the rights of Marylanders to bring medical malpractice cases. Often these proposals do not make the news but if passed can have a big effect on citizens.
I encourage any reader of this blog to find out where their legislator stands on these issues.
